Our dream for Tat-Chat is to connect clients with talented artists who will give them a badass tattoo, and who are deserving of their time and money. Tattooing is an over saturated industry with many tattooers traveling to guest spot at a shop, participating in conventions, and/or moving shops. It is difficult to find one review (let alone many for the same artist) on conventional search engines due to frequent geographical movement of tattooers. Social media can be a great place to start looking at individual artists' work, but for obvious reasons only their best work will be highlighted without any comments on how they treated their clients, if their work is consistent, etc...

Tat-Chat allows users to search reviews, filtering by Instagram handle of the artist they are interested in. Every review for that specific artist will load regardless of how many locations they have tattooed from. If I was tattooed by an artist in Seattle and left a review for them, and you were tattooed by the same artist in Los Angeles, both reviews would be viewable on the same page. If you are scrolling through reviews, and you see an artist you are interested in knowing more about, click on the artists' handle and all reviews for that artist will appear. Reviews can also be filtered based on the city the user is interested in getting tattooed.

We've created a platform for users to leave honest reviews so other potential clients are well informed before getting tattooed. This includes any safety concerns clients may have experienced solely online or in person. Social media opens the door for scammers to cast a wide net. I often see posts by well known artists alerting their followers of scam accounts claiming to be them. Tat-Chat is the perfect platform to cross reference these scam handles. All you have to do is type in the handle on the search bar and all reviews for that scammer will be displayed.

Why should you use Tat-Chat? We need people with tattoos (whether it be one or many) to leave a review for their artist(s) in order to build our database. This will provide clients with a better understanding of who they are choosing for their next tattoo. Reviews can include a photo, be one word "awesome!" or can go into great detail as to why or why not they would or wouldn't recommend the artist.

I booked a large scale sleeve project with a guest artist at a reputable shop. Thousands of dollars were spent and many hours in the chair resulting in a partially complete, half-assed piece. I've been tattooed many times and understand it is a process so it doesn't always look perfect after each session until it all comes together. However, this artist was late to appointments, tattooed awful work on my body, and canceled appointments without rescheduling. He then ghosted me when I reached out to be refunded future deposits. 

 

I learned this artist had not only done this to multiple clients at this very shop, but had also run this scam in California. His Instagram was and is full of amazing pieces, but nowhere could I find a review about all of his inconsistencies and tendencies of scamming clients. Thankfully, the shop owner, who is an amazing artist and human, honored those deposits and not only completed my arm, but spent 30 hours fixing the awful work that had been permanently put on my arm. 

 

With tattooers struggling to make bookings and continue their craft earning a decent living, and people like I had the unfortunate honor of encountering, I thought there HAS to be a better way to review tattoo artists. I saw a review about this horrible guy on Yelp, but the review was for the shop as you cannot review individual people. It read "this review is for one tattooer but the shop will take the hit with this 1-star review because I don't know of another platform to leave this review." I knew I had to do something to better the system of vetting tattooers.
